Why Books Are The Best Medicine

For as long as I can remember, my head has always been in a book. Whether it be a physical book or an e-book, I am always prepared. Stay ready so you don't have to get ready lol I think my love of reading started with Pizza Hut reading challenges, Scholastic Book Fairs, and dragging my parents to Barnes & Noble every chance I got. That's also the reason why in addition to being a book lover I am a book collector (hoarder). There's nothing like being transported to a fictional world to escape the reality of the world we live in. Books have been there through both the darkest times and happiest times of my life. It doesn't matter what mood I'm in, I know even reading for a little bit will bring me peace and solace.

I am stressed out pretty often because I'm a manager in a retail pharmacy and you can only imagine the amount of crazy I deal with on a daily basis. What gets me through the day is knowing that I have books and wine waiting for me at home and my bookish babes to keep me going. This past year was pretty tough for me as I dealt with some personal issues including anxiety and panic attacks. Yet, I made the time to read over 200 books because reading was the only thing to calm me (and Lexapro, I wouldn't recommend walking around unmedicated). Whether you're happy, sad, mad, or not feeling your best, a good read is the cure. Of course I have to leave you with a prescription so here goes: read until your heart is content and then read some more. Refills are as needed and this prescription never expires.

"Once I began to read, I began to exist." -Walter Dean Myers
